Yet another WIAW, and yet another day in London! This is actually what I eat on the Wednesday there too!! Go me.
Unfortunately on our second day in London I woke up feeling really ill. This always happens to be in London, I always get some sort of sore throat, I call it the tube lurgy! To try and make myself feel better we went in search of breakfast. We found a little cafe in Earls Court, and I managed to order my favourite breakfast: natural yogurt with muesli, apples and chopped banana and a drizzle of honey. Too bad I was feeling too ill to eat. I eat less than half of this, which is pretty unheard of for me. Good thing I was with the human dustbin who demolished the rest! The mug of tea went down well though!
We then went to visit some more gallerias: first up the Royal Academy to see the Degas show, which we loved. I really like pastels, so I've used Degas as inspiration quite a lot over the years, so I was looking forward to seeing these in real life.
It was actually super super busy there! I suspect there might of been an OAP special on because we bought down the average age quite considerably!
We pooped across the road to the White Cube, to see Raqib Shaw's work, but I wasn't impressed at all, I found it quite garish and ugly! But then the fact that it obviously took a lot of skill and effort went into the pieces as they were heavily embellished, in order to make them beautiful, contrasted with the fact that I found them ugly, then made them interesting for me. Not sure if its anything to do with the point of the paintings as I haven't bothered researching the pieces, but thats just art, always messing with my brain!
We then caught another tube and went to the Saatchi museum. I was surprised that there was so little that I liked there, although I'm pretty sure it was the same last time! The only thing that stood out for me was Richard Wilson's Oil Room.
And then finally I was hungry! We went to EAT where I got an avocado, pesto and chicken sandwhich, an overpriced fruit pot, and what should of been a chai latte, but ended up being an ordinary latte so I had to go and change it!
And then off to another gallery we go! This time it was off to Whitechapel, which I like cos it always seems to have something I love! Last time we went they had an exhibition by my favourite artist Sophie Calle, but this time we didn't go for a particular exhibition, just for a look round. We watched a few video installations which were good, but we got scared by some! The best bit for me was the Richard of York Gave Battle in Vain exhibition. It was great to see such different pieces if art hanging next to each other, an to get an idea of the vast array of pieces that are part of the British collection. Plus I'm a sucker for anything colour co-ordinated! :)
My favourite was from the black section and was by Grayson Perry and is called Print for a Politician. I've seen it before, but can happily stare at it for ages looking at all the different groups in the etching.
And then I decided that the only cure for my sore throat would be some Frozen Yogurt! We traveled to Islington to visit Samba Swirl! I had a bit of every flavour: tart, berry, chocolate, and mint topped with some Mango and Blueberries! I really liked the mint, but thought it could be quite overpowering on its own.
We then decided to go for a walk round Islington to scope somewhere out for dinner, but we were in no rush, seeing as we'd eaten our pudding first, we were pretty full! We looked in the window of quite a few estate agents, and plotted our plan to move to London and become starving artists (living the dream!), but still leaving in these half a million pound apartments- no we haven't quite figured out how that ones going to work either! We ended up walking to the other end of Islington and then walking back again, nearly an hours walk altogether, and we ended up going back to somewhere we spotted right by the station- Byron. I had a vague recollection of reading a review about Byron and that it was a good one, so we decided to give it ago!
We started off with tortilla chips with salsa and guacamole because I luuurve guacamole! I also had a Mango Iced Tea which made a nice change, very refreshing.
Then came the main meals. I had a cheese burger with Monterrey Jack cheese.

And on the side we shared an order of fries and an order of courgette fries. Loved the courgette fries, but they were very greasy! I also loved the burger, it was cooked to medium rare perfection.
I don't have burger and chips often, but when I do I want it to count. :)
We then made our way back to Earls Court, grabbing a bottle of red wine on our way. I drank a small galas out of a classy plastic cup, and then fell asleep. Being ill really tires me out, as does going around galleries, so I was out for the count!
As you can see my favourite things to do are to look at good art, and to eat good food, so I do exactly that when I'm on holiday! When you go away what do you spend your days doing?
What's the nicest thing you eat today? I've been making protein pancakes this week, and I think I've almost perfected it! This morning's had added cinnamon which made them very Autumn-y, for tomorrow's I added vanilla, and I have high hopes!
